Ccleaner 3.15 Released With New Features And Improvements

Free utility Ccleaner 3.15 released with new Recycle Bin features and more improvements. Ccleaner is our favorite free program to delete temporary files and this latest version adds more features.

The biggest new feature is the addition of an option to only clean Recycle Bin files that were deleted more than 24 hours ago (to avoid unintended deletion) but it isn’t immediately obvious how to find or use it…

Only Clean Recycle Bin Files after 24 Hours – To access this feature: open Ccleaner and select the ‘Options’ tab then the ‘Advanced’ tab.

This tab lists additional settings for advanced users – including the new Recycle Bin option. The default settings are as shown below:

Two items here are of particular interest:

1. ‘Only delete files in Recycle Bin older than 24 hours‘ – this is the new option and is not selected by default i.e. all items in the Recycle Bin will be deleted when you run Ccleaner, regardless of how recently they were put in the Bin. If you want to err on the side of caution and do not want to delete files you only put in the Bin within the last 24 hours then tick this option.

2. ‘Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 24 hours‘ – this is selected by default. The reason it is selected is that some programs (especially antivirus or newly installed programs) may store temporary files from the current session in Temp folders. These files may be locked (i.e. unable to be deleted during the current session) so, to prevent errors when trying to delete them, this option makes Ccleaner exclude them.

I recommend leaving this setting alone to avoid multiple errors trying to delete locked files – the only time it could be worth deselecting might be if you are running Ccleaner as part of a virus cleanup when it would be a good idea to try and delete all temporary files in case they contained active remnants of the virus.

Other changes in Ccleaner 3.15 include the addition of Omnibox search shortcut cleaning for developer/beta builds of Google Chrome and improved cleaning of Firefox History. Firefox and Chrome cookies and cache get better Analysis results and the Driver Wiper get better feedback for successful operations.

There are multiple improvements for privacy cleaning of Chrome and Firefox development builds and better cleaning for Windows Log Files and Microsoft Search plus a few bug fixes.
