Those of a certain age will recall the classic handheld electronic games of the 80’s and early 90’s. Retro greats like Nintendo’s Donkey Kong and Zelda can still evoke nostalgic reminders of the earliest days of ‘console’ gaming.

Hipopotam have digitalized 27 of these classic handheld games so you can play them for free in your web browser. The list includes the above favorites plus:

  • Parachute
  • Autoslalom
  • Bartman
  • Mickey & Donald
  • Donkey Kong Junior
  • Nu, Pogodi!

The games require Adobe Flash Player to run so will work in most browsers (except on iOS by default). To play just browse to Pica-Pic.

Choose the game you want and click to play. The first view shows the mapping for the keyboard controls – click on an existing key if you want to change it to your own key combination.

Each game keeps high scores from the last week, month and all time – if you get a high score, join in and post your own.

There are also options at the top of the screen to turn the sounds on/off, zoom in/out or close.

It’s hard to believe it’s up to 30 years since most of these games kept our thumbs so busy – have fun with this blast from the past!
