To celebrate the launch of Windows 8 today, Microsoft have published details of a time limited offer to add Windows Media Center to Windows 8 Pro for free.
Windows 8 does not include Windows Media Center – this helps keep costs down as Media Center includes third party codecs which Microsoft has to pay licensing fees for.
You would normally have to purchase the Windows 8 Media Center Pack separately at a cost of $9.99 but, for a limited time, Windows 8 Pro users can get the Media Center Pack for free – so you can watch and record live TV with Windows Media Center.
Free Media Center Pack Upgrade
The offer is valid from today until January 31 2012 (and must be activated by then) and is limited to 1 product key per email address.
You qualify for this free promotion only if your computer is running Windows 8 Pro.
Full details are available at the offer page here.
Once you have provided a valid email address you will be emailed your free product key – follow the instructions on the offer page to add Windows 8 Media Center Pack to your Windows 8 Pro computer.
