Best Free Flashlight App For Windows Phone

I recently reviewed flashlight apps for iPhone and Android but what about Windows Phone? Just as with the others, many of the flashlight apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace are not free so I have ruled them out because, let’s be honest, a flashlight app is likely not something you’ll use every day (unless you live in a cave) so why pay for it?

I have also ruled out apps which bombard you with more adverts than light and apps that add so many extra ‘features’ that they fall down on the basic function – an easy way to turn the phone’s lights on. So what’s the best free flashlight app for Windows Phone?

Flashlight-X (by Asleroid)

Averages ratings – 4.5 star ratings. Cost – free. Adverts? Yes, but still the best flashlight app I could find for Windows phone, free or not (the Pro version costs $0.99 and is advert free). Designed for – Windows Phone 7.5 or higher. Size – less than 1MB.

Download – and more info at Windows Phone Marketplace here. The Pro paid version without any ads is available here. The app offers a true flashlight that uses your camera phone’s flash to light up constantly with no flickering. Features include:

  • Turns on instantly
  • Works on all Windows Phone devices! (except HTC Mozart because of XENON flash)
  • Uses Camera’s LED Flash.
  • No flickering (Constant Mode)
  • Disables screen lock when the flash is on
  • SOS mode for emergency situations

Conclusion

Flashlight-X includes some adverts which is annoying but there are far fewer apps to choose from in the Windows Phone Marketplace than for Android/iPhone so there is much less competition – and most of its free competitors use ads too…

The free version of Flashlight-X is simple to use, well featured and gets such good reviews that it still wins out as the best flashlight app for Windows Phone.

  1. If it works well for you, great! However, it’s too new (only 14 ratings, 3.5 stars) for me to recommend it.

Flashlight-X doesn’t blink according to most people and has nearly 5000 4.5 star reviews so is still my recommended choice but thanks for the info – will be interesting to see how they compare over the coming months
